Bridging the Tech Skills Gap in BARMM: From Academia to Industry

There's a significant mismatch between what universities teach and what the industry needs. As a developer who went through this transition, I want to share what we're doing to close this gap.

The Academic-Industry Divide

Most CS and IT curricula in BARMM focus on theory and outdated technologies. Students graduate knowing C++ and basic HTML, but the industry demands React, Python, and cloud technologies. This isn't the fault of universities—resources are limited, and curricula take years to update.

“The best way to learn development is by building real things for real users. Theory matters, but practice transforms.”

— Sahed Radzak, MoroTech

What the Industry Actually Needs

Modern development requires proficiency in frameworks like React and Django, version control with Git, agile methodologies, and soft skills like communication and problem-solving. These are rarely taught in traditional classrooms.

How We're Bridging the Gap

Our training program focuses on practical, project-based learning. Trainees work on real client projects from month three, learning industry tools and workflows firsthand. We also partner with universities to supplement their curricula.

Key takeaways

  • Project-based learning from day one
  • Modern tech stack training (React, Django, PostgreSQL)
  • Mentorship from experienced developers
  • Exposure to real client requirements
